Obituary for Floyd Warren "PJ" Nicholson Sr.

Floyd Warren "PJ" Nicholson Sr.
Floyd Warren Nicholson, Sr., 72, of Hagerstown, MD passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Meritus Medical Center. Born March 31, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Nicholson, Sr. and Alice Reese. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Nicholson.
Floyd was affectionately known to friends and family as PJ. After being educated through the Philadelphia School System, he enrolled into Job Corp to obtain a trade as a barber. Upon completion of the Job Corp Program in 1965, he relocated to Hagerstown. He worked as a barber for over twenty-five years. He was also employed by Statton Furniture Company for fifteen years before retiring. He was a member of Ebenezer AME Church. He served as an usher as well as sang on the choir. Being born and raised in Philadelphia, he was an avid sports fan of all the Philadelphia teams especially the Eagles. PJ’s infectious personality and great sense of humor always made him the life of the party. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest.
PJ is survived by his wife of 34 years, Angela Nicholson; his sons: James Nicholson and wife Katie, Floyd Nicholson Jr., Jamol Nicholson, Sr., and Kenzel Jessie, Jr.; his daughters: Stephanie Nicholson, Palmera Nicholson, Shawna Nicholson and Helen Mency and husband Darin all of Hagerstown, MD. He also leaves behind his brother, Bishop Robert Nicholson Jr. and wife Mattie, Lawnside, NJ and sisters: Alice Brackett and husband Joseph, Thelma Nicholson, Vivian Montgomery and Beverly Newkirk, Philadelphia, PA. PJ was also blessed to have a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Greater Campher Temple, 125 Bethel St. Hagerstown, MD on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 p.m. Bishop Robert Nicholson Jr. of Old Ship of Zion Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA will officiate the service and Reverend Leroy Jackson will deliver the Eulogy.
