Altha Marie (Steen) Chandler

Altha Marie (Steen) Chandler, of Pensacola finished her earthly course on February 8, 2018. Altha was born on October 27, 1933 the late Willie (Sr.) and Josephine Steen. She was the middle child of the family which included her older sister Gloria (Steen) Howard, and her younger brother Willie Steen, Jr. After graduating from Washington High School in 1952, she attended Bethune Cookman College.
She was a devoted wife of SSgt., Joseph C. Chandler, Sr., (Ret) a United States Service member for 20 years, and supported his career while perusing the love of nursing and raising their two children.
Her life accomplishments are note-worthy. 20 years in total as a registered nurse, eight years at National Jewish Hospital in Denver, CO and 12 years at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, while serving several years working the psychiatric ward there. She was the matriarch of the Chandler-Steen family who never abdicated her position or minced her words. She had a life-time tour as a devoted mother and Christian, was crowned, robed and anointed with her wings by our Father and now resides in one of His many mansions in heaven.
A faithful member of Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church of Pensacola for over 30 years, during which time she served as a dedicated member of the choir and other various church positions.
On her final rounds of duty in God's hospital, she ascended to Heaven fully healed into the loving arms of Jesus, and family members who preceded her.
Although she has departed us physically, she leaves in her memory, two children: Rev. Dr. Joseph C. Chandler, Jr., (Sakima) of Frederick, MD, Cynthia D. Benson (Dewayne) of Kissimmee, FL; her sister Gloria Howard (Jake, (dec'd)) and brother Willie Steen, Jr, (Charlie-May). seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter; a blessing of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends and providers.
The public viewing will take place on 16 February 2018 at Joe Morris & Son Funeral Home (701 N De Villiers St, Pensacola, FL 32501
The home going celebration will be held on February 17, 2018, 11AM at Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church (201 West Leonard Street Pensacola, Florida 32501), The Elder Dr. Bernard Yates, officiating. Burial services will immediately follow at Holy Cross Cemetery located at 300 E Hayes St, Pensacola, FL 32503.
