Obituary for Bruce Gregory Johnson

Bruce Gregory Johnson, 65, of Hagerstown, MD departed this life early in the morning on February 1, 2019 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Washington, DC. He was born in Washington County, MD on December 3, 1953 to the late Bruce W. Johnson and Clifidean J. Monroe. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters Edith J. Monroe and Connie M. Johnson, as well as his nephew Michael J. Monroe. He graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1971 and later served in the United States Navy. He was one of the first black Deputy Sheriff's of Washington County, the worked for many years for Rapid Lube and Merkle Company of Hagerstown. In his younger years, he was a great track runner. Greg was a Dallas Cowboys fan, a Maryland Terrapins fan and he loved fishing, gardening and spending time with his friends. He leaves to mourn one brother, William C. Monroe and a close first cousin, Edward Monroe (Nallie), a special niece Penny M. Schlotterbeck (Gene), a great nephew Cole, cousins Ronnie Clark, Reginald Johnson, and Michelle Monroe, as well as a good friend, Charlie Washington.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Harman Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac Street, Hagerstown. Rev. G. Nathan Bell will preside. Friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral service at 9:00 AM. Burial private and at the convenience of the family. in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robert W. Johnson Community Center, 109 W. North Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.harmanfunerals.com

To Billy Monroe, family and friends, Mere words cannot fully express the loss of a loved one. I chose to remember all the good times that Bruce gave us during his life on this earth. Many great times were spent with Greg at the Broad Axe and Southwest Trading Co. I have know Bruce Greg a very long time and he will be missed.
