Obituary

Obituary for Christine Virginia Brooks

Christine V. Brooks, 86, gained her wings after a long illness on Sunday, June 16, 2019, during her stay at Ravenwood Skilled Nursing Facility in Hagerstown, Maryland. She was born January 9, 1933, in Keswick Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Laura A. Hughes, and the beloved wife of the late Luther I. Brooks Jr. of 59 years. This year on Father’s Day was extra special because she gained her wings and is resting beside her husband again.
She was a long-time member of Zion Baptist Church in Hagerstown Maryland where she served the Lord with gladness on several ministries including the choir, culinary ministry and missionary ministry. She was employed by Washington County Hospital for many years. She even bowled on the Fellowship bowling league team.
She enjoyed shopping with family members and friends but her favorite time was sitting on the porch in the evenings eating ice cream and cake.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Brooks, Jacqueline Glover, husband, Eddie, Joyce Gantz, husband Jay, all of Hagerstown, Maryland, Karen Nunnally, husband Hoyt, College Park, Georgia, two sons, David Hughes, and Luther I. Brooks III, of Hagerstown, Maryland. She has 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sister-in law, Kay Baker, Myrtle Harmon (deceased) Brother-in law, Eddie Brooks, Frank Harmon (deceased) Welton Baker (deceased) Elmer Brooks (deceased).
Her special friends are JoAnn Manuel, Nettie Harris, Lonnie Nobles (deceased). A host of many other special friends that were dear to her heart. In additions to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Herman and Robert Green, sisters, Edith Mills, and Gracie Hughes, one surviving brother William Hearns, wife Odell, of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Funeral Services will be held at Zion Baptist Church, 61 Bethel Street, Hagerstown, Maryland, on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 12 pm with Pastor Rickey A. Smith, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church at 11:00 am on Saturday. Harman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements located at 305 N Potomac Street in Hagerstown, MD. Vickie

To the family of Christine Brooks, it is a terrible loss for you and to those who knew Christine. But she will live on in each of our lives by her laughter, her conversations, and by Tina just being herself. She left a legacy to live your best life by serving. She was a force to be reckoned with. Build on who she was; a rock, never giving up. Come together, be strong and trust God through this difficult time. Love you all. Cousin Vickie Fuller
