To the family I would like to express my sincere condolences. Plain and simple...Robert was a great guy. A kind considerate man, easy to talk to, and even easier to respect. I met Robert back in 1979 up at the basketball courts in the west end of Hagerstown. I was a rising basketball player, and he said I've seen you in the papers.
That means nothing up here...and I chuckled.
That was the start of a great friendship. I moved to Frederick, ran into Robert at a gas station. He proceed to tell me. This area is gonna boom. I'm trying to get a gas station he said. That area was Urbana.
Robert opened that gas station. That big 7/11 at exit 26.
I'd ride through and he would be working the over night shift.
We would be talking about the old basketball days. A patron would walk by, and he'd say. Can you believe I used to mop the court up with him? I stand 6' 5", Robert might have been 5' 8" on a good day. I said this because it didnt matter where he saw me, he made everyone laugh telling that he beat me story.
We have lost one of the good ones.
Finding out he passed makes my heart heavy. Knowing his pain is gone. Makes us rejoice.
Torrance, may God continue to bless you and your family.

I cannot imagine not having you here...I will miss your kindness, laughter and most of all your friendship. I'd give anything to hear your voice once more. Rest easy my friend until we meet again in Paradise. Fly high and soar amongst the Angels. Sing praises unto our father (even though you couldn't carry a tune in a bucket ) and watch over us. Thank you for everything you've ever said or done. Your friendship will always remain closest to my heart. Visit me in my dreams....I love you Petties....
