Obituary for William McKinley Claiborne

William McKinley Claiborne, 88, of Hagerstown, MD passed away at Meritus Medical Center on Sunday, May 3, 2020.

He was born on February 19, 2020 to the late William Mack Claiborne and Catherine (Gillispie) Claiborne.

Mr. Claiborne was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He loved being around people, loved fishing and loved every minute of caring for his family.

William was the last original founding member of the “Progressive Men’s Club”. He would be there every Monday, faithfully checking in.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Janie V. Claiborne, and his grandson, Jamerrill Claiborne.

William is survived by his five children, Joyce Ann West, Bonnie Sue Claiborne, Ronnie William Claiborne, Gardner Claiborne, and James Merrill Claiborne, his brother Earl Claiborne, a host of grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be held at Harman Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac Street, Hagerstown, on Thursday, May 7, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Graveside services will be held at St. Joy Baptist Church Cemetery, 4389 Greenway Road, Buckingham, Virginia 23921 on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 2:00 pm.
